Sweet Letters 2 Sisters भारतीय मूल की दो अमेरिकी बहनें दुनियाभर के बुजुर्गों को चिट्ठी लिखकर उनका अकेलापन दूर कर रही हैं। कोरोना महामारी शुरू होने के बाद से वे 15 लाख चिट्ठियां लिख चुकी हैं। दरअसल, मैसाचुसेट्स की श्रेया पटेल और उनकी छोटी बहन सेफ्रॉन 2020 की शुरुआत में कोरोना के दौरान अपने दादा-दादी के साथ समय नहीं बिता पाईं। ऐसे में उन्हें खुश करने के लिए दोनों बहनों ने वीडियो कॉल करना शुरू कर दिया, लेकिन श्रेया को लगता था कि कहीं कुछ कमी रह गई है।

  • Sweet Letters 2 Sisters श्रेया बताती हैं कि हम दादा-दादी को हर दिन फोन और मैसेज करते थे, लेकिन फिर भी वे खुद को अकेला महसूस करते थे। श्रेया बताती हैं कि एक दिन मेरी दादी के एक दोस्त ने उन्हें चिट्‌ठी लिखी। यही वो चिट्‌ठी थी, जिसने लेटर अगेंस्ट आइसोलेशन संस्था की शुरुआत में अहम भूमिका निभाई। इस संस्था ने 7 देशों में 5 लाख से ज्यादा लोगों को चिट्ठी लिखने के लिए प्रेरित किया। बीते दो साल में उनकी संस्था 15 लाख चिट्ठियां भेज चुकी हैं। इस काम के लिए उन्हें 2022 का प्रतिष्ठित डायना अवॉर्ड भी दिया गया है।

  • Sweet Letters 2 Sisters श्रेया बताती हैं कि हमें लगा कि चिटि्ठयों से हम अकेलेपन से जूझ रहे बुजुर्गों में सकारात्मकता ला सकते हैं। उन्होंने वृद्धाश्रम और केयर होम में रहने वाले बुजुर्ग लोगों को चिट्‌ठी, आर्टवर्क और पॉजिटिव मैसेज भेजना शुरू कर दिए। जल्द ही वे बुजुर्गों में लोकप्रिय हो गईं। श्रेया कहती हैं,‘हफ्तेभर में ही हम 200 से ज्यादा वरिष्ठ नागरिकों को चिट्ठियां लिख चुके थे। तब हमें मदद की जरूरत महसूस होने लगी थी। वहीं, जिन लोगों को ये चिटि्ठयां मिलीं, उनकी जिंदगी और जीने के मायने बदल गए।

  • Sweet Letters 2 Sisters इस दौरान हमें पता चला कि ये बुजुर्ग न सिर्फ चिटि्ठयां संभालकर रखते हैं, बल्कि दूसरों को दिखाते भी हैं। वे अपने घरों में इन्हें सजाते हैं, इन्हें बार-बार देखते हैं और पढ़कर इनसे प्रेरणा लेते हैं। दोनों बहनों का अभियान सफल रहा। शुरुआती दो महीनों में ही अमेरिका के 11 राज्यों में इनकी चिटि्ठयां उम्मीद जगाने लगी थीं। पत्रों की बढ़ती मांग को देखते हुए, अप्रैल-2020 में इन्होंने लेटर अंगेस्ट आइसोलेशन शुरू करने का फैसला लिया।

  • Sweet Letters 2 Sisters अब इस संस्था के दुनियाभर में 40 हजार से ज्यादा वालंटियर हैं। इन्हीं के जरिए अकेले रह रहे बुजुर्गों की जानकारी मिलती है। अमेरिका के अलावा ब्रिटेन, कनाडा, ऑस्ट्रेलिया और इजरायल में 10 लाख से ज्यादा वहीं अन्य देशों में पांच लाख बुजुर्ग चिट्ठियां पाकर सकारात्मकता महसूस कर रहे हैं। श्रेया कहती हैं,‘भले ही वैक्सीनेशन ने बुजुर्गों को घुलने-मिलने और बातचीत की आजादी दी है। पर अकेलेपन का मुद्दा कायम है। यह ऐसी महामारी है, जो कोरोना से पहले भी हमारे बीच मौजूद थी और आगे भी बनी रहेगी। इस पहल के बाद श्रेया और सेफ्रॉन देश-दुनिया में चर्चित हो गई हैं।
